Just uploaded the second installment of the adventures of Osric and the troops of Tissburi following the Naval Campaign of Prince Madoc against the Saxons in 487. It manages to advance the Tale of Tissburi and also shows that "WAR IS HELL". https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/948446/Ironsworn_Story_OSRIC_002.pdf The rest of the session reports and the Domain Asset rules and notes on running the Great Pendragon Campaign with Ironsworn can be found at https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays

Session 004 of my Ironsworn Solo based on "The Great Pendragon Campaign" is available at https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/906768/BEORN_004_SWORD_FEAST.pdf Because I'd written some "GM" notes for the first couple of years in the story, this was a cross between playing a Choose your Own Adventure and a more free-form solo game. It was a lot of fun, but I think for a player who didn't know in advance the possible consequences of their choices (choose the battle or the Embassy mission? choose to wait in Eboracum or go looking for the warzone?) it would probably be even better. The earlier sessions, along with my homebrew Domain Asset rules and the GM notes on running this campaign, can be found at https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/906768/BEORN_004_SWORD_FEAST.pdf

Episode 3 of my solo Actual Plays led me to add some notes to my homebrew Domain Asset about how to treat the Domain’s Troops as a Companion. I decided to give the troops 5 Health (like a Horse Companion) when “some unspecified number of them” accompany the lord into an adventure. They can then take harm and if that band of troops gets killed, the security rating of the domain is reduced by 1. https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays

Some notes on how to run the Great Pendragon Campaign as an Ironsworn Solo game (or Gm-less Group or with a GM).

Some notes on how to run the Great Pendragon Campaign as an Ironsworn Solo game (or Gm-less Group or with a GM). These rely on my suggested Domain Asset which you can hopefully find in an earlier post. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/901914/TGPC_Notes_for_Ironsworn_GMs.pdf If you are wanting to play solo - these notes should give you a reasonable way to approach this massive campaign. If there is enough interest in them, I may extend them - they just cover the first couple of years with a few battles and adventures. enjoy! https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/901914/TGPC_Notes_for_Ironsworn_GMs.pdf

I’ve come up with a way to simulate running a domain (in preparation for trying a Great Pendragon Campaign using Ironsworn Solo). I haven’t playtested it yet but would welcome some feedback... Ironsworn Domains ASSET: DOMAIN When you are a Thane, in command of a domain.. You gain a Domain with two attributes – Security & Prosperity (5 ranks to split between the two attributes). I suggest you use an Index card and put the tracks along two edges and mark them with paperclips. The mechanical benefit for owning a Domain is that it becomes a community you can Sojourn in that automatically counts as though you have a Bond with it. Also, when you perform a Sojourn, on a strong hit you can add supply equal to the Domain’s Prosperity and on a weak hit you can restore your supply to the same level as the domain’s Prosperity You may make one of the following Annual Moves at the end of Autumn as a Scene Challenge (Scene Challenges are an optional rule from the end of the Ironsworn rulebook), ...

Session 9 of Valgrym's Dark Ages adventures. I've really got to slow down with this, but am enjoying Solo Ironsworn immensely. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/898645/Ironsworn_Story_009.pdf https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/898645/Ironsworn_Story_009.pdf

Into the Faerie Realm - sinister things are afoot! https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/898288/Ironsworn_Story_008.pdf Any suggestions of things he might meet on the journey through the Faerie Realm would be welcomed. combat or otherwise. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/898288/Ironsworn_Story_008.pdf

Session 7 of my Dark Ages Solo.

Session 7 of my Dark Ages Solo. More unexpected and mostly grim things happening to Valgrym - gaining more quests than he is completing! https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/897737/Ironsworn_Story_007.pdf Feedback welcome - particularly do you think there is a better way to model him solving a riddle? I have some others in mind for an upcoming encounter. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/897737/Ironsworn_Story_007.pdf

What do you think of these two Assets... FLAW: COWARDICE & PATH: PRIEST...

What do you think of these two Assets... FLAW: COWARDICE & PATH: PRIEST... FLAW:COWARDICE This counts as a new Debility, reducing maximum momentum by 1. In exchange, when you Face Danger or Suffer Harm when running or riding away or cowering from a threat... O Runner add +1 and take +1 momentum. (+2 momentum if this endangers an ally or companion) O Dodger: When you Clash add +1, but do no harm on a weak hit O Groveler. When you use Compel to grovel and beg for mercy, add +1 and take +1 momentum. I started thinking about introducing a second character into my solo dark age britain game and looked through the list of people Valgrym had already met. One was a Prior - I decided he went into the Church in order to hide because of his misdeeds and is not a true believer. The idea of an Asset that is a Flaw appealed to me. If you are familiar with the Flashman books by George McDonald Frazier, you'll recognise the character type I was going for. PATH: PRIEST @ When you Sojourn i...

Session 6 was the best one yet!

Session 6 was the best one yet! I have to thank Shawn Tomkin for Ironsworn although it has consumed great portions of my free time :) This session truly threw up some unexpected complications and resolutions. A satisfying story emerged from Solo Play, which had elements I'd planned but many that were truly unexpected. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/896346/Ironsworn_Story_006.pdf https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/896346/Ironsworn_Story_006.pdf

This is a proposed Asset for my Dark Ages setting in which the realm of Faerie contains many dark and dangerous creatures who might bring harm to Mortals. The setting is influenced by Poul Anderson's novel, The Broken Sword. The denizens of Faerie are repelled by Iron and this spell can be cast using the dust from a blacksmith's workshop. I'll probably create a version of it using Holy Water too as Christianity has a similar effect. I've made Faerie Ward quite dangerous to cast, unless you have high Spirit. I'd probably make Holy Ward be much less dangerous to use - perhaps Endure Stress (1 spirit) To see some of my Actual Plays in this setting https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-actual-play-reports

Chapter 5 of Valgrym's Tale (Ironsworn Solo in Dark Ages Britain).

Chapter 5 of Valgrym's Tale (Ironsworn Solo in Dark Ages Britain). I'm still enjoying this solo creative process. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/895528/Ironsworn_Story_005.pdf You can find links to the earlier chapters at http://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-actual-play-reports I took it a bit easier on our hero this time but Ironsworn seems reluctant to let you finish a Quest and likes to give you more complications (that's not a bad thing). https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/895528/Ironsworn_Story_005.pdf

Just added a chart in Chartopia for some Encounter ideas for a Dark Ages Ironsworn game. These suggestions might act as a spur to your imagination. There is quite a bit of randomisation inside each option so please give them a try when you want some external stimuli https://chartopia.d12dev.com/en/chart/3090/ Many of them aren’t combat-focussed Feedback welcomed. https://chartopia.d12dev.com/en/chart/3090/

Chapter 4 of Valgrym's Tale (Ironsword Solo)

Chapter 4 of Valgrym's Tale (Ironsword Solo) I really seem to have gotten somewhere with this session of the solo game. The STORY that emerged seems very satisfying, the ADVENTURE improved and the game mechanics really contributed. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/894014/Ironsworn_Story_004.pdf You can find links to all the chapters in my Blog at http://igm4u.com https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/894014/Ironsworn_Story_004.pdf

Just played my first game of Ironsworn (Solo).

Just played my first game of Ironsworn (Solo). Really, really enjoyed it! I decided to write it up as I was going - Story in one column and Game Mechanics in a second column so they fall alongside. I've set this in Dark Ages Britain, in the year 999 and have based the style and setting on a novel by Poul anderson called "The Broken Sword" - it has vikings, a fading Faerie realm, old gods, Christian Britain. The PDF can be found at https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/891807/Ironsworn_Story_001.pdf I haven't got very far with the story in this first session, but I enjoyed it immensely so far, and found the Ironsworn rules to be incredibly useful for shaping the narrative and providing simple mechanisms to resolve conflicts. First 4 pages are a bit of historical googling to get some basic info about Britain in the year 999 and a map, followed by some ideas for tweaking the World Truths to match my setting, then I did the character creation, the ...
