Kilda's vows to rid Lostwater of Talan and the raiders continue in the latest three parts of A Thrall of Lostwater. The narrative is a little slower than perhaps it ought to be - this is closer to long form fiction with the occasional interceding mechanic than to an actual play. Nonetheless I'm having a blast (and we may get some actual action soon). Enormous kudos for the Journeying moves. I had a lot of fun with these (shouldn't have planned things out in advance, but I'm glad I did in the end). http://phophosolo.home.blog/2018/12/24/a-thrall-of-lostwater-v/

Happy holidays folks!

Happy holidays folks! Interacting with an awesome community has been a highlight of my 2018 for sure. Thanks so much for your support! There's more Ironsworn on the way in 2019, and I hope you'll join me as the journey continues.

Sometimes, I get so much into a story that I begin predicting some of its plot twists or its outline.

Sometimes, I get so much into a story that I begin predicting some of its plot twists or its outline. When I do that, the story eventually loses its flavor, because I know how it will end. I basically railroad myself. I guess the solution to this is tp trust the dice, the oracle and my imagination, to let myself be surprised, and to stop predicting stuff. Does anyone have the same problem ?

Came to this game following a recommendation on my favourite play-by-post hub, and I am totally hooked.

Came to this game following a recommendation on my favourite play-by-post hub, and I am totally hooked. A brilliantly balanced system that appeals to my desire for narrative rich play that's meaningful in solo mode. With that in mind, I've started a solo campaign in blog format at phophosolo.home.blog, which I'd be honoured to let you check out. http://phophosolo.home.blog/

In Sickness and in Health :- Part 2

In Sickness and in Health :- Part 2 The Settlement of Greenwick Before my Husband left Greenwick he spoke of the Hinterlands . A rich forrested area teaming with life during the warmer months , yet cold and arrid during winter .We were hardened , we could deal with harsh winters , and with plenty of game to hunt and protection from invaders from the high ground , surely it was a better place to settle than the harsh flooded plains . I will head North , my Husband will be there somewhere , I just have to find him somehow . I will sneak away from the Settlement .... Tonight! Settlement Escape:- Our home was not much . A large tent like structure made with animal hides and local timber , but it was warm , dry and our home, yet here i was preparing to leave ! Still , with my Husband in the Hinterlands and my son in the next life , it was just me and Kodroth . Kodroth was a pup , when Nadira found him on a hunt . He was near death , shivering , pathetic , abandoned by his ...

How can I represent my character resting in a community for an extended period of time ?

How can I represent my character resting in a community for an extended period of time ? My character has just gone out of a very perilous fight, which has left him wounded, shaken, maimed, with -6 momentum, +0 health, +0 spirit, and +1 supply. In a word, he's probably going to need to rest for a while before adventuring again. However, the Sojourn move doesn't seem to be enough. I need to represent a month, or several months, of recovery ; he won't go in the wild again until he has a positive momentum and at least +3 health, spirit and supply. How can I represent this, mechanically ? Roll Sojourn multiple times ? Or just roll once and accept that trouble finds me again, still in a poor state ? Heal, Resupply and Secure Advantages until he is well again ? Do an ellipse in the narration and come back "one month later" with his stats arbitrarily set to adventuring values ?

Started my campaign tonight , so far created a character and a background . I thought I would share it . Campaign : In Sickness and in Health Leela Beltran 2 months have passed since my husband left . The village is now in turmoil , sickness spreads like wildfire , my son has passed , our village leader ...Gone! There is in-fighting amongst the strong familys over new leadership for the village which is creating great tension amongst us all . Some village elders believe witchcraft or sorcery is to blame for the sickness and are looking at some of the prominent women in the village to blame . A guilty charge of treason is death! The paranoia in the village is so high , and our leader dead , its become mob rule . Here's a technique to pace the threats inherent to a journey into the wilds.

Here's a technique to pace the threats inherent to a journey into the wilds. If you are leaving a settled place and heading into perilous lands, you can use your journey progress track as guide to the ranks of the threats you will face. The further you delve, the greater the danger. The amount of progress you've marked on your journey sets the rank of your foes and the severity of the outcome for failure (see the illustration, attached). 0-3: Dangerous 4-7: Formidable 8-0: Extreme For example, I leave a village and head off for the deep woods. On my second journey roll, on the outskirts of the woods, I score a miss. I decide I encounter a fast-moving river that I must ford. I am at 2 progress, so this will be a dangerous threat. I Face Danger to get across, but score a miss. Per the rank of the threat, I suffer 2 harm as I loose my footing and get bashed against some rocks in the freezing water. A few segments of my journey later, I am now deep in the wilds with 8 progress. Unf...

Guys, I was thinking about how to adapt Pokemon to Ironsworn.

Guys, I was thinking about how to adapt Pokemon to Ironsworn. I almost don't have time to plan much hacks (including some 7th Sea sorcery conversions I'm working on), and I want some help and insight from your part. With this hack, I would have to do away with some concepts and moves, such as Health for the Trainer, changing some moves related to Spirit, and reworking or eliminating the physical confrontation moves. Now, Paths would represent training styles (Like Ace Trainer, Breeder, Lass), Rituals could be reworked into Training Methods. Now, I don't think it's a good idea to make every single Pokemon its own companion asset, and I'm thinking how to tackle that one. My idea is making Type Assets, as in Fairy, Rock, Fighting, etc, and then give those tags with mechanical advantages and disadvantages (Like in other PBTA games) to represent the Pokemon of your team. Type Assets would represent the broad and common abilities of certain types, and tags the more specif...

If you like the idea of taking your character on a quest for redemption, here's an asset I'd like to include in volume 3. You may only add this to your character once you have Forsaken a Vow, so it's not accessible for starting characters. Your reputation as an oath-breaker and your own self-doubts will add hardship to your struggles, so this asset counts as a debility. It will reduce your max momentum and reset. But, there's a big reward at the end of your quest. Work-in-progress, so feedback is welcome. Did anyone create some more generic fantasy assets (I’m thinking spells and the like) that could be useful for playing Ironsworn in a less grim and more standard fantasy setting? My players are loving the system and I’m considering extending it to our other group, where I think generic fantasy would be more in line with their wishes.

Session two of my as yet unnamed solo campaign. What a ride! I thought I could squeeze in more gameplay this time but the oracle seems to have a really firm idea of the pacing it wants, and when the fiction gets, like, good-good, it honestly exhausts me. In a good way! This session is brought to you by hours and hours of Danheim Viking radio, 'The Lay of Thrym' by Tyr, and 'Where Owls Know My Name' by Rivers of Nihil. Highly recommended for your own solo play!

Shawn Tomkin how did you come up with ideas for the assets

Shawn Tomkin how did you come up with ideas for the assets ? Did you make a list of fantasy archetype and themes, or did you consider the crunchy part first ? I'm working on a cyberpunk hack, I'm pretty happy with what I did so far, but I have trouble coming up with assets ideas, apart from weapons and cybernetics.

I play in a group of 4 people.

I play in a group of 4 people. We previously played in guided mode, but the GM wanted in on the action, so we switched to co-op. Anyway, one small issue we have is when facing groups of adversaries, it seems unclear to us the best way to mechanically represent them. If you face a group of dangerous raiders represented as a formidable or extreme group, it doesn't make a lot of sense that they can do so much damage with each attack, yet, splitting them up into individuals also seems particularly deadly. Are we missing something? If you play in a group, how do you deal with this situation?

One other custom asset I made for a sci-fi setting (literally can't wait for the official release, haha!) It is essentially the Wyvern asset with minor tweaks to wording and the stat used for the bottom perk. Icon taken from the Wayfinder asset.

EDIT: I created an updated version that some might think is better down in the comment chain. Someone in my group wanted to be a shapeshifter so I created this card to give it some gameplay value instead of just narrative. I merged and modified the existing Pretender and Bind cards (I used the icon from Rider since it seemed the most fitting). I haven't play tested it yet but considering it is based on existing assets, I don't expect it to have any real balance problems. I don't know if it truly fits in with Ironsworn lore since it seems most "magic" is based around rituals and not inherent traits but my story is not based in the Ironsworn world so this may be useful for anyone who is doing something similar and wants a shapeshifter. Feel free to use this and let me know your thoughts!

As many of you know, Google has announced that G+ will be shutting down in the Summer of 2019.

As many of you know, Google has announced that G+ will be shutting down in the Summer of 2019. It's a huge bummer, because Ironsworn wouldn't exist without the feedback and support you (the members of the community) have provided. It's truly been a pleasure and a privilege to watch this community grow. As I've noted previously, I'm not in a huge hurry to close the doors. I will continue to monitor and post here until Google turns out the lights. That said, I am painfully aware that the conversations and content we create have a limited shelf life. So, for this post, I'd like to have an open discussion about where -- if anywhere -- to put a semi-official community hub for Ironsworn. I'll be pinning this to the top of the group for the month of December. Please share your thoughts! I'll provide some of my thoughts below. I am painfully aware that any choice we make will be leaving many (if not most) people behind. There's no perfect answer. In fact, I ...

Here's an actual play report of my first brush with Ironsworn, and solo RPG play in general.

Here's an actual play report of my first brush with Ironsworn, and solo RPG play in general. I've already shared it with some of my gaming group (I might be lowkey trying to sell them on the game a little), and as such there's a running commentary of how I found the rules and what I ran into while playing. I've seen some really great play reports on this G+ and if I continue to have this much fun writing up future sessions, I might have to look into putting it all on a fancy blog, but for now, it's a rough Gdoc. Hope people enjoy!

Bruce Meets Ironsworn, part 2: the character.

Originally shared by Bruce Baugh Bruce Meets Ironsworn, part 2: the character. Now to take that setup and populate it a bit. Let's see what I've got... • A new form of plague. It greatly weakens its victims but doesn't generally kill them. But it does damage their minds - they lose the ability to speak, and to understand most symbols. Some say they become nascent horrors, but this is far from confirmed. My character doesn't believe it. The overseer is one of those infected, and it's not helping the circle avoid turmoil, that's for sure. • Unearthed ruins. My imagination leapt to sea caves along a forbidding shore, and the Ironlands have a region like that, the Ragged Coast. In one of them, a vessel of unfamiliar design, with bodies which released the silence plague. • A vision. My character's repeatedly dreaming of a meadow which, he somehow knows, no horror has ever touched, with a large one of the ancient iron pillars in the middle of it. The cure his circ...

Bruce Meets Ironsworn, part 1: the world.

Originally shared by Bruce Baugh Bruce Meets Ironsworn, part 1: the world. Ironsworn's game setup process has character creation before world creation, but I find it easier to do the other way around. The world generally draws out characters for me. So here goes. You get a bunch of questions about the setting as it'll be for this series, each with three suggested answers, each with a quest hook, and space to insert your own. I'm going to go with a mix of the provided options, to see what comes out. 1. The Old World. Ironsworn is set in a harsh land to which characters' ancestors fled a couple generations ago. Why'd that happen? Lessee...yeah, I'm good with a plague. "The sickness moved like a horrible wave across the Old World, killing all in its path. Thousands fled aboard ships. However, the plague could not be outrun. On many ships, the disease was contained through ruthless measures—tossing overboard any who exhibited the slightest symptom. Other ships ...

The "progressive solo play" of Ironsworn RPG for #SGAM2018 was a resounding success!

The "progressive solo play" of Ironsworn RPG for #SGAM2018 was a resounding success! I think at times it was far more difficult to pull off as the month progressed, because the later players really had a lot to read through to keep up on the various story threads. It really showcased how well built the system is, how open it is to playing fast and free mechanics-wise, but still allowing for imaginations to really take over when inspiration hits (yet provides a wonderful level of oracular assistance when the ideas just aren't flowing for players). In the coming weeks I'll be making the Google Group we used to track everything publicly available for everyone to peruse. I definitely learned some management tricks putting this project together; hopefully I documented it well enough that this can be used as a template for more such game sessions to be run by anyone with the gumption to do so! Thanks again to all who participated this year!

Hello over there, first of all i want to thank you for accepting me in this community, i started to play Ironsworn in solo thanks to my friend David Álvarez and i'm playing in a gothic horror setting of victorian theme with my hero called Lucian Archer, a grim, stoic and focused Monster Slayer that looks much like Solomon Kane and Van Helsing (the character from the hugh jackman's Movie). So after Lucian completed his first mission of killing an evil noblewoman who was a user of black magic (I took her head as proof of the success of my mission) and defeat a pack of werewolves during my journey back to Chancel (A Place similar to London) i got ambushed by agents of an ecclesiastic (and evil) secret organization of Golemancers and necromancers called the Promethans, they captured me because of Lucian's connection with his mentor called Sullyvhan, who was related with them in the past but later he abandoned them. (The prometheans wants to get both Sullyvahn and Lucian dead so...

Hey people!

Hey people! I'm really at a loss here, I think I'm not grasping how to handle milestones and pacing, including hot to set difficulties for my quests. So, for example, I made a vow, an inciting incident about a cockatrice eating the cattle and horses of an impoverished town. My hero sets his sights on slaying the beast and I give it a formidable rank. From here I get lost. The vow starts as a weak hit, meaning I have to do some research about the beast and where it lives. Weak hit again. I discover it goes to an arid mountain in the distance and my character isn't really a climber; not to mention he lacks a ranged weapon to face the beast who has aerial advantage. So, I ask if there's a smithy in the town, and I get yes. He's a reclusive old man from another country who pretty much makes stuff just because it's his craft and he doesn't sells weapons just to anyone. I go and compel him into giving me a vow by giving him a speech of how much the town needs the ...

Hey there!

Hey there! I want to put the 7th Sea sorcery assets into cards but I'm very bad for editing, so in the meanwhile, I want to present you with the first of the sorcery assets I converted to Ironsworn: Porté. Porté might be familiar to those who know the setting, but for those who don't, it's like this. Porté consists in marking objects (nothing you wouldn't be able to carry with yourself) with a single drop of your blood, and then spilling another drop of blood again in order to open a portal to grab them. Porté also lets the caster open a deep wound on their skin in order to open bigger portals that let them cross to any place they've previously marked with their blood; not only this can cause great harm and pain, but also, they risk madness or being lost forever, as what's in between the portals is unknown and not very nice (you have to cross with eyes closed and ignore the noises). So, here's Porté: SORCERY ASSET PORTÉ When you mark an object with a drop of...

Ironsworn ticked over to the Electrum Bestseller level on DriveThruRPG over the holiday weekend. Thanks everyone! That is 250+ copies of the print version. I had set a personal goal of 200 for this year, so vow fulfilled a few weeks early! And now the slow march to gold level. An epic journey, to be sure. I would be remiss to not mention a more important metric, which is the 8,000 customer downloads through DriveThruRPG and several thousand more through my website. I'm excited to have so many people take a look at the thing I made, even if it turns out it's not for them. I am constantly hearing from folks who are new to the game, which makes me super-happy. Hi fellow Ironsworner

Hi fellow Ironsworner, As I am often on the road and I sometime intend to play Ironsworn in Coffeeshops so physical component and dice is somewhat of a no-go for me. So, having to go all digital I made myself an Excel character sheet which include a dice roller. I thought to share it with the community in case anybody else needed something similar. Link : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JlUHKigNDpKZSMrYMs7slbhEgmegdfI5/view?usp=sharing Some caveats : 1.This is version 1.0, unplayed and untested yet. Some kinks may needs to be ironed out, although I am fairly confident it work well enough ; 2.The character sheet is filled with my initial character data in order to provide a template on how I intend to use it; 3.Feel free to remove the hyperlink on the Bio section of the character sheet. I was just way too long-winded to have my bio fit on the space included... 4.Feel free, to modify, share or deconstruct any part of this sheet. Im a pretty busy guy and I make no promise to ever do any ...

Has anyone tried to play a character with the Pretender asset

Has anyone tried to play a character with the Pretender asset ? How did it play out ? How did you "justify" your character having this asset, how did it manifest in the narration and why ? I'm curious because I have trouble seeing how this asset can fit in a viking-themed fantasy, or even a low fantasy setting in general : characters impersonating others is a pretty specific schtick when you think about it, and I have the impression it would better fit in a setting with intrigue, espionage, mystery, big city and nobility plotting against each other... I don't know, I was a little bit intrigued by the presence of this asset in the game.

For those that play solo, do you get a feel of adventure, excitement, and story, or does it feel like you're just going through the motions. I've used Mythic GM Emulator and at times (between the emulator and whatever system I'm using) it feels like I'm just being a bookkeeper. Writing down names and scenes. The actual fun can get lost. Does Ironsworn handle this better?

Stop the rampant consumer exploitation!

Hi

Hi, New to Ironsworn and I am getting ready for my first journey into the Ironlands. I do have a small rules question though : - I am reading the "Forge a Bond" move and I wonder if you also mark a tick on your Bond progress bar on a weak hit (after the request is resolved successfully) ? - Sub question : On a miss on the "Test your Bond" move, should I remove both the marked Bond AND the tick on the Bond progress bar ? On another note, I have been roleplaying for more than 30 years and I am absolutely floored by what you have done with Ironsworn, truly superb game design. Take care, - Yannick

Ergo, I’m going to be using the playtest rules provided for our delve into the spider cave. Obviously, the Theme and Domain don’t fit. When those come up, I’ll adapt to something more appropriate. Guys, big question.

Guys, big question. I know Momentum stays the same between sessions but, what about Health, Spirit and Supply after fullfilling vows and starting new quests? A friend's character just finished his first vow. When he goes back to play, what does he does with the tracks? In which page can I find this info?
The Discord invitation link on the website doesn't seem to be working at present. Is this still in use?

How would you adapt the Ironsworn system for a more mercenary setting with actual cities and the like?

How would you adapt the Ironsworn system for a more mercenary setting with actual cities and the like? Right now, my thought is that Iron Vows could be refluffed to "Contracts," and perhaps instead of trying to increase Bonds you pursue various ways of increasing Wealth. Thus, when you retire, you roll your Wealth vs. the challenge dice. But I'm not sure what all implications this would have, and what all changes I would have to make to ensure things still flow right. How would you go about this?

Guys, have you ever played in High Fantasy settings? Which ones? And how was the experience?

Guys, have you ever played in High Fantasy settings? Which ones? And how was the experience? I'm playing in the Krevborna system-neutral setting, gothic horror (I made it to be ritual magic), and it inspired me to seek something more high magic. Wanting to hear opinions :) Also if interested I might start doing themes and stuff for the delve playlets, more high fantasy oriented.

Question to players that have 5-6+ games up their sleeves.

Question to players that have 5-6+ games up their sleeves. Do you still use cheatsheet or have you mostly internalized the moves by now? I find that, at least to me, DW moves are easy to remember (then again, I don't remember if I remembered them all that well after only a couple of games) but for Ironsworn I feel like I'd need to keep the cheatsheet around for Ironsworn even after dozens of sessions. It's not really that the moves are hard to remember but I think they are more "mechanical" than say DW. They affect more stats (Momentum, Initiative, Supply, Spirit, Health, Progress Track, Conditions). Maybe also the way they have bigger "chunk" of text in each move? That said, using the cheatsheet is easy, the moves themselves are generally easy to understand and well written and easy to use at the table. It's just that I feel shackled to that sheet as I feel I can't remember the exact triggers or effects of a move.

Has anybody considered or created advanced assets requiring other assets (or having them fully upgraded) as prerequisites? I'm thinking about jobs in Dragon Warrior 7 or FF:Tactics, allowing you to specialize more deeply or narrowly rather than wider, after unlocking a certain combination of lower tier assets. For context, I just discovered Ironsworn and I'm absolutely loving it. Though I have not tried it, co-op/solo+GMless+Oracles is my absolute sweet spot for gaming.

Hi!

Hi! Maxime Lacoste and myself started a coop Ironsworn game (only 2 sessions in though). We discussed about how often we rolled failures and how little Strong Hits we had during the game. In comparison, in most pbta games (I know Ironsworn isn't technically a pbta game but bear with me), with a +1 you have 72% success probability (45% of weak hit, 28% strong hit). We were wondering if we should approach the game a bit like Fate were you really need to stack up on Momentum or are we just really unlucky lol. What's your experience with this?

The Ironsworn Lodestar pay-what-you-want reference guide is no longer available on DriveThruRPG for some reason. No idea why. Just noticed it was gone when I went to buy a personal copy. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon, because I know there's at least one person (me) trying to buy it.

Good evening.

Good evening. I need clarification for Endure Harm (I'm sorry if it was asked before, I've searched the group and have't found it). "On a miss, also suffer -1 momentum. If you are at 0 health, you must mark wounded or maimed (if currently unmarked) or roll on the following table." Does the extra effects for being on 0 health apply only on a miss or always regardless of miss?

Greetings from Indonesia! i really hooked up with Ironsworn, a rules light and fascinating system that combine Pbta and Mythic, and the most interesting part is the flexibility, i can craft my own ironland version! Now i still learn the whole book and try to do a solo session, and soon i'll invite my wife to join co-op play. The world must know this great game. I mean really, i can't believe i can even get it for free. You're awesome Shawn Tomkin 😀

Ack! This is another, "I rolled 0,0 again!" post. First time to End the Fight, this time to Fulfill Your Vow. Last week was in a fight against a bear, which put us into the hands of some elves since it was in their wood. This week, after we threw the evil idols from the cliffs into the sea for the elves, and escaped some form of haunts, we found a hidden community in a hidden cove. We were unprepared at that point and luckily we sojourned very well with them and, as they were a bit of a backward people, we offered to aid them. They asked us to kill a dangerous fish which had taken their best fisherman. We did this. It was not easy. Our veteran was badly wounded and even lost his sword, but we did it, we killed it and brought it back. When I rolled to complete the vow: 0, 0. facepalm Now the Hidden Cove community has been rounded up and is being led up to the monolith to be sacrificed by the same haunts (bonewalkers or iron revenants, we're not sure, but there ar...

About Sojourn move.

About Sojourn move. The Rulebook says "When you rest, replenish, and share fellowship within a community, make this move." and "Make this move once when visiting a community." I am not good with English, when I read "once" I understand that I can not repeat the movement in a community, unless I am revisiting it. However, in my gameplay I ended up zooming to much, and my char is in a village where some villagers are hostile and others are friendly. I already used SOJOURN in a tavern to recover health, and then I suffered stress damage in the next scene. But two of my votes will take place in this village, it would be cheating if I use Sojourn again in the same tavern after fulfilling one of the vows (which is directly related to the owner of the tavern)?

What are your recommendations for additional books of random table generation? I see Toolbox, Ultimate Toolbox pdfs and I see Tome of Adventure Design. Which books do you use to help flesh our your Ironsworn adventures? I'm leaning towards downloading both of the Toolbox books and having them printed at the local shop (they are out of print and too costly to buy on Ebay). What say you?

I've finally got most of the details nailed down for the crowd-sourced "progressive" solo play of Ironsworn for #SGAM2018! FINALLY, right? Sorry. Anyway, I've got a Google Group set up for this, and a few documents/sheets in Drive shared out to the group. This should cover most of what we'll need to track for the month. I'd like to see how many people are interested in doing this, so I can kind of feel out how many days we need to set aside per "chapter" of play in the game/story. The original thoughts I saw here were to put a 4-day limit on the play turns, but looking at how many days there are in November, that may not allow for everyone to have a crack at it. How many people would be up for this? We're talking "I'm in"s, not "That'd be kind of neat"s, here. :) I'll be opening up the group shortly, though I've still gotta figure that part out now... invites? Maybe I'll ask anyone who wants in to the grou...

We played our 4th session last night.

We played our 4th session last night. We're playing with 3 players and a GM and having a blast. I've only posted the first summery. I suppose I should really post the others. I just wanted to post about the fight we lost. We were in the Deep Wilds and had been warned not to hunt here. So, we were foraging; doing well. We were loading up on barries and even found some honey when a bear attacked us. The fight wasn't going too badly for us when I used Turn the Tide and expended my (maxed at 9) Momentum so I could end the fight. After my strike with my hammer, the bear had 9 boxes filled and I rolled to end the fight. I rolled: 0, 0. Yep, it actually happened like that. My only consolation was that roll would've doomed any fight. Luckily for us, the twist was that the elves intervened because our Shadowy character's been playing them against our enemy and they wanted us to steal their iron idols from them and cast them into the sea.

Had my first two sessions with the family on the weekend, and although they were fragmented and hurried, we got somewhere. The first session was co-op, the second was a single player and me as more of a rules guide than a GM. The only real mistake I made with the rules was to fail to convert Secure an Advantage into Aid an Ally (because the action was directly intended to release the grip of a Kelder Tree who had another of our number trapped). Wife, kids and daughter's boyfriend grasped the notion of the action-vs-challenge-equals-strong/weak/miss very quickly and the session the morning after with my 8yo worked really well, because her imagination is fresh and uncluttered. Biggest problem: I was so busy helping everyone get the rules/moves/ideas that I forgot to have my character do anything at all. Next time will be better.

Thank you for Ironsworn.

My current mobile RPG rig: - Lodestar (yes! Glad I sprung for it) - Assets deck in a Card Caddy - Game Master's Apprentice , the ultimate oracle, inspiration, and dice replacement. This is in another Card Caddy. I really love these products, they're solid chunky plastic to protect your cards but also the shell separates and the two halves slot together to form an awesome draw/discard tray so you don't clumsily knock them off your table or bed, like this here moron. - cheapo thin Moleskine notebook for recording mechanics, narrative and dialogue in my uber-illegible shorthand notation, to be reconstituted as type later if I deem it worth reincarnating in a more entertaining format for the consumer. Plus doodles and maps and shiz - 4-panel (8 slot) GM screen with Mythic fate chart/event+description tables , plus most (all?) the Ironsworn moves inserted, though I'll likely swap these out for something else ( Covetous Poet tables or something similar) since I have Lod...

Good morning!

Good morning! I'm currently brainstorming a super-hero hack for Ironsworn, and would like some input from the community. Superheroics is basically character driven drama with ridiculous outfits and super powers, so vows and bonds can be imported as is. But how would you handle powers? Would they be reskinned assets? Purely narrative? Something else?

What happens to a bond if the person or community it represents is killed or destroyed?

What happens to a bond if the person or community it represents is killed or destroyed? Does it get nixed? Does it stick around as a fond (or important anyway) memory? Been wondering this as I foresee one or more bonds disappearing.

Session 004 of my Ironsworn Solo based on "The Great Pendragon Campaign" is available at https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/906768/BEORN_004_SWORD_FEAST.pdf Because I'd written some "GM" notes for the first couple of years in the story, this was a cross between playing a Choose your Own Adventure and a more free-form solo game. It was a lot of fun, but I think for a player who didn't know in advance the possible consequences of their choices (choose the battle or the Embassy mission? choose to wait in Eboracum or go looking for the warzone?) it would probably be even better. The earlier sessions, along with my homebrew Domain Asset rules and the GM notes on running this campaign, can be found at https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/906768/BEORN_004_SWORD_FEAST.pdf

Greetings

Greetings I had a question about the Test Your Spirit move : do I have to go through it every time I lose spirit, of just when my spirit is tested in-game ? For instance, do I have to roll to test my spirit when using the Bladebound (Fury) asset, allowing +2 harm in exchange of -1 spirit ?

I was just playing solo as a test run for my campaign next week, and hit a question which may have been asked before (sorry, I searched and couldn't find anything): If you earn +1 momentum on a weak hit for a certain move, but burn your current momentum to make it strong hit, do you gain the new momentum post-reset, or is it burned along with your current? I guess the real question is if earned momentum is always applied post-move...

Thoughts : how to make Ironsworn work with vehicles ?

Thoughts : how to make Ironsworn work with vehicles ? I am thinking of using an old rule from D6 Star Wars : scales ! Its really easy to implement : Like packs, scales upgrade or degrade the encounters difficulty. Using common sense and the fiction, you can quickly eyeball it. You can even combine the pack and scale together. Lets say a single person shots at an armored truck : raise the difficulty by one. A squad of soldiers shot at the same truck : keep the establishment difficulty. Their numbers evens the scale. (The armored truck is probably pretty though to begin with btw). What do you think about this concept ?

New dice!

Image
New dice! Really nice set of black and white dice from Q-workshop for my Ironsworn games. I appreciate that you can buy dice individually (instead of just in sets), and the shipping from Poland was fast and pretty cheap. I ordered a few different colors and materials, but I'm a simple person and like the contrast of these. Also, I'm back from my brief out-of-town break. I can't wait to dig into all the new play reports.

#SGAM2018

#SGAM2018 Expounding on a previous thread, I'd like to propose a project to be run for Solo Gaming Appreciation Month 2018 (yes, it's a thing!): a crowd-sourced "progressive" solo play of Ironsworn RPG! For the sake of simplicity and to attract both old hands and new in the Ironsworn community, we will be playing a continuous game set in the Ironlands per the core rulebook. No hocus-pocus, no sci-fi mods, no additional assets outside of Volumes 1 and 2; strictly by-the-book. All useable parts of the game are currently available on either DriveThruRPG or on the ironswornrpg.com website. You don't have to be a story-based player; if you can post up solid understandable actual play notes, those of us who like to write will likely jump in and flesh out your play turn! Each person will be assigned a turn in the overall order of players, and will have a maximum of 4 days to post a "chapter" in the story. There will be one overarching Vow to hold the story to...
