Hello over there, first of all i want to thank you for accepting me in this community, i started to play Ironsworn in solo thanks to my friend David Álvarez and i'm playing in a gothic horror setting of victorian theme with my hero called Lucian Archer, a grim, stoic and focused Monster Slayer that looks much like Solomon Kane and Van Helsing (the character from the hugh jackman's Movie). So after Lucian completed his first mission of killing an evil noblewoman who was a user of black magic (I took her head as proof of the success of my mission) and defeat a pack of werewolves during my journey back to Chancel (A Place similar to London) i got ambushed by agents of an ecclesiastic (and evil) secret organization of Golemancers and necromancers called the Promethans, they captured me because of Lucian's connection with his mentor called Sullyvhan, who was related with them in the past but later he abandoned them. (The prometheans wants to get both Sullyvahn and Lucian dead so...

Hey people!

Hey people! I'm really at a loss here, I think I'm not grasping how to handle milestones and pacing, including hot to set difficulties for my quests. So, for example, I made a vow, an inciting incident about a cockatrice eating the cattle and horses of an impoverished town. My hero sets his sights on slaying the beast and I give it a formidable rank. From here I get lost. The vow starts as a weak hit, meaning I have to do some research about the beast and where it lives. Weak hit again. I discover it goes to an arid mountain in the distance and my character isn't really a climber; not to mention he lacks a ranged weapon to face the beast who has aerial advantage. So, I ask if there's a smithy in the town, and I get yes. He's a reclusive old man from another country who pretty much makes stuff just because it's his craft and he doesn't sells weapons just to anyone. I go and compel him into giving me a vow by giving him a speech of how much the town needs the ...

Hey there!

Hey there! I want to put the 7th Sea sorcery assets into cards but I'm very bad for editing, so in the meanwhile, I want to present you with the first of the sorcery assets I converted to Ironsworn: Porté. Porté might be familiar to those who know the setting, but for those who don't, it's like this. Porté consists in marking objects (nothing you wouldn't be able to carry with yourself) with a single drop of your blood, and then spilling another drop of blood again in order to open a portal to grab them. Porté also lets the caster open a deep wound on their skin in order to open bigger portals that let them cross to any place they've previously marked with their blood; not only this can cause great harm and pain, but also, they risk madness or being lost forever, as what's in between the portals is unknown and not very nice (you have to cross with eyes closed and ignore the noises). So, here's Porté: SORCERY ASSET PORTÉ When you mark an object with a drop of...

Ironsworn ticked over to the Electrum Bestseller level on DriveThruRPG over the holiday weekend. Thanks everyone! That is 250+ copies of the print version. I had set a personal goal of 200 for this year, so vow fulfilled a few weeks early! And now the slow march to gold level. An epic journey, to be sure. I would be remiss to not mention a more important metric, which is the 8,000 customer downloads through DriveThruRPG and several thousand more through my website. I'm excited to have so many people take a look at the thing I made, even if it turns out it's not for them. I am constantly hearing from folks who are new to the game, which makes me super-happy. I really appreciate those of you who spread the word to make up for my shabby outreach efforts. Hi fellow Ironsworner

Hi fellow Ironsworner, As I am often on the road and I sometime intend to play Ironsworn in Coffeeshops so physical component and dice is somewhat of a no-go for me. So, having to go all digital I made myself an Excel character sheet which include a dice roller. I thought to share it with the community in case anybody else needed something similar. Link : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JlUHKigNDpKZSMrYMs7slbhEgmegdfI5/view?usp=sharing Some caveats : 1.This is version 1.0, unplayed and untested yet. Some kinks may needs to be ironed out, although I am fairly confident it work well enough ; 2.The character sheet is filled with my initial character data in order to provide a template on how I intend to use it; 3.Feel free to remove the hyperlink on the Bio section of the character sheet. I was just way too long-winded to have my bio fit on the space included... 4.Feel free, to modify, share or deconstruct any part of this sheet. Im a pretty busy guy and I make no promise to ever do any ...

Has anyone tried to play a character with the Pretender asset

Has anyone tried to play a character with the Pretender asset ? How did it play out ? How did you "justify" your character having this asset, how did it manifest in the narration and why ? I'm curious because I have trouble seeing how this asset can fit in a viking-themed fantasy, or even a low fantasy setting in general : characters impersonating others is a pretty specific schtick when you think about it, and I have the impression it would better fit in a setting with intrigue, espionage, mystery, big city and nobility plotting against each other... I don't know, I was a little bit intrigued by the presence of this asset in the game.

So, my character entered a nest of foul giant insects and even tho he prevailed, he lost his club weapon!

So, my character entered a nest of foul giant insects and even tho he prevailed, he lost his club weapon! So, which move should I use once I'm in a settlement to acquire a new one?

For those that play solo, do you get a feel of adventure, excitement, and story, or does it feel like you're just going through the motions. I've used Mythic GM Emulator and at times (between the emulator and whatever system I'm using) it feels like I'm just being a bookkeeper. Writing down names and scenes. The actual fun can get lost. Does Ironsworn handle this better?

Stop the rampant consumer exploitation!

Stop the rampant consumer exploitation! Ironsworn drove me to buy paper clips so that I can properly handle a character sheet once I finish the day's work. :D

Here's an outline of materials currently planned or in-development at the Ironsworn forges. Things may (and probably will!) change. I do have some other settings I want to explore, and I am hoping that what you see here gives me a solid base for other worlds and genres. I'd love to hear what official or unofficial material you want to see.

Question about the Sighted Path.

Question about the Sighted Path. Is it #1) a) when you face danger, or b) when you gather information to identify or detect mystic forces, OR is it #2) a) when you face danger to identify or detect mystic forces, or b) when you gather information to identify or detect mystic forces?

Hi

Hi, New to Ironsworn and I am getting ready for my first journey into the Ironlands. I do have a small rules question though : - I am reading the "Forge a Bond" move and I wonder if you also mark a tick on your Bond progress bar on a weak hit (after the request is resolved successfully) ? - Sub question : On a miss on the "Test your Bond" move, should I remove both the marked Bond AND the tick on the Bond progress bar ? On another note, I have been roleplaying for more than 30 years and I am absolutely floored by what you have done with Ironsworn, truly superb game design. Take care, - Yannick

Branwhyn and the Valknut Devle into the Depths of a nest of Harrow Spiders to retrieve the Ironlanders taken from a raid on their caravan. 23 - Devle the Depths - Part 1 Shawn Tomkin’s playtest document for Devle the Depths came out at a good time for me, the same day I was writing this as it turned out. Ergo, I’m going to be using the playtest rules provided for our delve into the spider cave. Obviously, the Theme and Domain don’t fit. When those come up, I’ll adapt to something more appropriate. I'll say in advance though, even the playtest rules of this expansion are a lot of fun! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UXkr3u2mqXCJj4DCZn84-A5pX6Yh5O-X

Guys, big question.

Guys, big question. I know Momentum stays the same between sessions but, what about Health, Spirit and Supply after fullfilling vows and starting new quests? A friend's character just finished his first vow. When he goes back to play, what does he does with the tracks? In which page can I find this info?
The Discord invitation link on the website doesn't seem to be working at present. Is this still in use?

How would you adapt the Ironsworn system for a more mercenary setting with actual cities and the like?

How would you adapt the Ironsworn system for a more mercenary setting with actual cities and the like? Right now, my thought is that Iron Vows could be refluffed to "Contracts," and perhaps instead of trying to increase Bonds you pursue various ways of increasing Wealth. Thus, when you retire, you roll your Wealth vs. the challenge dice. But I'm not sure what all implications this would have, and what all changes I would have to make to ensure things still flow right. How would you go about this?

Guys, have you ever played in High Fantasy settings? Which ones? And how was the experience?

Guys, have you ever played in High Fantasy settings? Which ones? And how was the experience? I'm playing in the Krevborna system-neutral setting, gothic horror (I made it to be ritual magic), and it inspired me to seek something more high magic. Wanting to hear opinions :) Also if interested I might start doing themes and stuff for the delve playlets, more high fantasy oriented.

Question to players that have 5-6+ games up their sleeves.

Question to players that have 5-6+ games up their sleeves. Do you still use cheatsheet or have you mostly internalized the moves by now? I find that, at least to me, DW moves are easy to remember (then again, I don't remember if I remembered them all that well after only a couple of games) but for Ironsworn I feel like I'd need to keep the cheatsheet around for Ironsworn even after dozens of sessions. It's not really that the moves are hard to remember but I think they are more "mechanical" than say DW. They affect more stats (Momentum, Initiative, Supply, Spirit, Health, Progress Track, Conditions). Maybe also the way they have bigger "chunk" of text in each move? That said, using the cheatsheet is easy, the moves themselves are generally easy to understand and well written and easy to use at the table. It's just that I feel shackled to that sheet as I feel I can't remember the exact triggers or effects of a move.

Has anybody considered or created advanced assets requiring other assets (or having them fully upgraded) as prerequisites? I'm thinking about jobs in Dragon Warrior 7 or FF:Tactics, allowing you to specialize more deeply or narrowly rather than wider, after unlocking a certain combination of lower tier assets. For context, I just discovered Ironsworn and I'm absolutely loving it. Though I have not tried it, co-op/solo+GMless+Oracles is my absolute sweet spot for gaming.

Hi!

Hi! Maxime Lacoste and myself started a coop Ironsworn game (only 2 sessions in though). We discussed about how often we rolled failures and how little Strong Hits we had during the game. In comparison, in most pbta games (I know Ironsworn isn't technically a pbta game but bear with me), with a +1 you have 72% success probability (45% of weak hit, 28% strong hit). We were wondering if we should approach the game a bit like Fate were you really need to stack up on Momentum or are we just really unlucky lol. What's your experience with this?

As you are traveling along a small animal track in the Deep Wilds, you stop near a creek flowing from an overgrown rock outcropping to refill your waterskin. You look over the distance, through the fog-laden conifers. The air is cold and refreshing but the woods are silent and eerie. That's when you hear something beautiful but haunting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKImmIQ4omQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKImmIQ4omQ

The Ironsworn Lodestar pay-what-you-want reference guide is no longer available on DriveThruRPG for some reason. No idea why. Just noticed it was gone when I went to buy a personal copy. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon, because I know there's at least one person (me) trying to buy it.

Don’t know how this never occurred to me before, but Ironsworn is kind of perfect for roleplaying in Middle Earth.

I print it myself, hope you dont mind 😊 Shawn Tomkin

I just noticed the asset deck no longer has the Ranger Path. What happened there?

I just got the book and I’m excited to dig into.

I just got the book and I’m excited to dig into. I noticed there wasn’t a listing in Goodreads so added it there. Shawn, feel free to claim it on your goodreads profile and edit anything I might have missed. I think having a goodreads page is a nice landing point for RPG books these days. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show?id=2580715864 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show?id=2580715864
