Thoughts : how to make Ironsworn work with vehicles ?

Thoughts : how to make Ironsworn work with vehicles ? I am thinking of using an old rule from D6 Star Wars : scales ! Its really easy to implement : Like packs, scales upgrade or degrade the encounters difficulty. Using common sense and the fiction, you can quickly eyeball it. You can even combine the pack and scale together. Lets say a single person shots at an armored truck : raise the difficulty by one. A squad of soldiers shot at the same truck : keep the establishment difficulty. Their numbers evens the scale. (The armored truck is probably pretty though to begin with btw). What do you think about this concept ?

New dice!

New dice! Really nice set of black and white dice from Q-workshop for my Ironsworn games. I appreciate that you can buy dice individually (instead of just in sets), and the shipping from Poland was fast and pretty cheap. I ordered a few different colors and materials, but I'm a simple person and like the contrast of these. Also, I'm back from my brief out-of-town break. I can't wait to dig into all the new play reports.

#SGAM2018

#SGAM2018 Expounding on a previous thread, I'd like to propose a project to be run for Solo Gaming Appreciation Month 2018 (yes, it's a thing!): a crowd-sourced "progressive" solo play of Ironsworn RPG! For the sake of simplicity and to attract both old hands and new in the Ironsworn community, we will be playing a continuous game set in the Ironlands per the core rulebook. No hocus-pocus, no sci-fi mods, no additional assets outside of Volumes 1 and 2; strictly by-the-book. All useable parts of the game are currently available on either DriveThruRPG or on the ironswornrpg.com website. You don't have to be a story-based player; if you can post up solid understandable actual play notes, those of us who like to write will likely jump in and flesh out your play turn! Each person will be assigned a turn in the overall order of players, and will have a maximum of 4 days to post a "chapter" in the story. There will be one overarching Vow to hold the story to...

Greetings, Ironlanders!

Greetings, Ironlanders! I just want to share this Google Slides file that I use when playing Ironsworn digitally. Slide 1 has a character sheet and a progress track that can be copied and pasted as needed. Slide 2 has the Ironlands map and space for notes. Slide 3 is left blank for miscellaneous notes. Slides 4, 5, and 6 have all the asset cards from volumes 1 and 2, to be copied and pasted to slide 1 when the character is created. I hope this is useful to someone! Happy adventuring and may all your vows be fullfilled! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1A030TcIkmIylx-_shiY1-6wnZib1kooWAsrY9Kmo_-Q/edit?usp=sharing

Episode 3 of my solo Actual Plays led me to add some notes to my homebrew Domain Asset about how to treat the Domain’s Troops as a Companion. I decided to give the troops 5 Health (like a Horse Companion) when “some unspecified number of them” accompany the lord into an adventure. They can then take harm and if that band of troops gets killed, the security rating of the domain is reduced by 1. https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-pendragon-actual-plays

I’ve started an Ironsworn actual play, setting the Ironlands within the world of Mythika from the Mazes and Minotaurs RPG (so my PC can be a Greek hoplite). Sorry, the fiction’s a little spare; but I’ve been enjoying playing, and I’m afraid I’d get bogged down if I committed to writing more elaborate fiction. http://archonidesintheironlands.wordpress.com

Some notes on how to run the Great Pendragon Campaign as an Ironsworn Solo game (or Gm-less Group or with a GM). These rely on my suggested Domain Asset which you can hopefully find in an earlier post. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/901914/TGPC_Notes_for_Ironsworn_GMs.pdf If you are wanting to play solo - these notes should give you a reasonable way to approach this massive campaign. If there is enough interest in them, I may extend them - they just cover the first couple of years with a few battles and adventures. enjoy! https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/901914/TGPC_Notes_for_Ironsworn_GMs.pdf

Yet another question: Both the Thunder-bringer and Honorbound assets have options which affect the Turn the Tide move. So, when making the Turn the Tide move, would I have to choose one effect, or would both affect the move?

Ironsworn is definitely a fantastic RPG, even more that has aroused many admirers and proving that it is a huge success, especially among us Brazilian fans, both as a final product and also as a source of inspiration for our projects and that allows us to believe and dream in publishing our games. Shawn, I think a lot of people may have asked that question, but I'm sorry to risk my turn now (Smile). Do you, as the owner and author of Ironsworn, allow the translation of your game into other languages? If so, would it allow me to start organizing an initiative for the translation of the Ironsworn content into Portuguese and in the future would allow the publication of a PDF that would preserve the layout and layout as well as the use of the images of the original material? Session 1 Mostly from Snorri's Perspective

Session 1 Mostly from Snorri's Perspective Ravencliff is a steading on the Ragged Coast, near the Tempest Hills. It lies at the end of a narrow inlet, surrounded by perilous cliffs and is only accessible by the sea or a narrow path from the cliffs above. Snorri was born in Ravencliff. His best friend growing up was Themon, the miller's son. Delkash is a veteran and father figure for Snorri, as his father was killed by the Tempest Trogs (fiends, background vow, avenge father, extreme) long ago. Delkash, Themon, and Maya (kinfolk) are refugees from Lowhill, which had been massacred by an iron construct about 20 years ago. Some years ago, Snorri's mother grew ill, and he convinced the mystic hermit Old Kai to heal her. When he returns to Old Kai's hut, accompanied by Delkash, they 'chance' upon Theman as they are ascending Kai's Hill toward Kai's Cave. It's been eight years, and Snorri embraces his old friend warmly. They go to see the hermit togeth...

Here's a question: During character creation, if a player picks an asset with a trigger such as when you mark a bond with a kin-blade, when you are maimed, or once you Face Death and return to the world of the living... Is it assumed they've already done so, or, since such an event could take a while to happen, should they just be asked to pick again?

The Ironsworn System Reference Document (SRD) is now online.

The Ironsworn System Reference Document (SRD) is now online. http://bit.ly/Ironsworn-srd There are probably some cut-and-paste goofs, which is why this is version .08. This was a rather laborious process, and I'll be giving it a once-over in the coming days. If you catch something, feel free to let me know. What the heck is this thing? The Ironsworn SRD includes all of the basic Ironsworn mechanics, character creation, moves, and a few other bits. It is essentially Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and portions of the NPC and Oracle Chapters from the Ironsworn rulebook, excised of setting references. What is it for? The Ironsworn SRD is offered under a more open license than the other Ironsworn materials, thus allowing for commercial use. If you want to leverage the text or mechanics to make your own game, go nuts. The only requirement is that you reference Ironsworn wherever you put copyright information. See the SRD for license details. Also, I hope that having this content in a s...

Do you think it's possible to hack pokemon into this?

Do you think it's possible to hack pokemon into this? I'm a bit high so this is mostly a stream of thought but bear with e :) games (maybe with path assets) about exploration, collection, and becoming a pokemon master. progress moves to catch/defeat pokemon. supply to catch/heal pokemon. pokemon as assets, extra ticks and abilities for evolutions? I think it'll be awesome for exploring the pokemon world using pokemon and their abilities mostly through the fiction. What about battles? Pokemon health (like familiars) but our abilities as trainers? I guess meaningful battles are relativly easy to hack, but what about wild battles? Or is this game simply not meant to have something that's basically a grind? So most battles will be important plot points (like in the anime) instead of a grind (like in the games). How would you hack vows into pokemon setting? Oracles for "wild" battles to see which pokemon you encounter. Thanks for reading this, hope I won't find...

I’ve come up with a way to simulate running a domain (in preparation for trying a Great Pendragon Campaign using Ironsworn Solo). I haven’t playtested it yet but would welcome some feedback... Ironsworn Domains ASSET: DOMAIN When you are a Thane, in command of a domain.. You gain a Domain with two attributes – Security & Prosperity (5 ranks to split between the two attributes). I suggest you use an Index card and put the tracks along two edges and mark them with paperclips. The mechanical benefit for owning a Domain is that it becomes a community you can Sojourn in that automatically counts as though you have a Bond with it. Also, when you perform a Sojourn, on a strong hit you can add supply equal to the Domain’s Prosperity and on a weak hit you can restore your supply to the same level as the domain’s Prosperity You may make one of the following Annual Moves at the end of Autumn as a Scene Challenge (Scene Challenges are an optional rule from the end of the Ironsworn rulebook), ...

I've made a condensed Ironsworn Reference in PDF!

I've made a condensed Ironsworn Reference in PDF! It Includes - Complete Moves Reference: From 5 pages to 2 pages/1 sheet of paper - All Assets: Instead of 6 pages of cards, 3 pages/2 sheets of paper. The idea is to mark on the page the assets your character has for people that don't want to bother creating all the cards but do want all assets in a convenient overview. (The "Volume 2" assets are included as well.) Stuff on the Asset card you have to use during gameplay (like Companion trackers) can best be written on the Character Sheet. - The Rules Reference: On the same page as the Ritual Assets. So 2 sheets of paper for all Assets + Rules Reference - All Oracle Tables All Oracle tables from 6 pages to 2 pages/1 sheet of paper. Very convenient considering you had to look up tables in the book/PDF before. - Complete World Workbook: From 6 Pages to 1 page/1 sheet of paper. You can select the premade stuff on the page itself. If you want to make up your own stuff you c...

Hey again guys! But for this he will need a trusty Ancient Beast, the first asset he will try to gain through a quest. I'm trying to make a custom companion asset grabbing bits and pieces of other pre made assets and mixing some of my ideas, I need some feedback! My character's Ancient Beast is an Akhlut, some sort of land killer whale. It combines parts of the Hound and Wyvern Asset plus a new custom advantage. COMPANION ASSET AKHLUT *Swift Swimmer: When you Undertake a Journey through places largely covered by water, add +1 *Ferocious: When you Strike or Clash alongside your Akhlut and score a hit, inflict +1 harm or take +1 momentum. *Insatiable: Insatiable: When you Undertake a Journey and score a hit, you may suffer -1 supply in ...

Just throwing an idea at the wall, seeing if it sticks.

Just throwing an idea at the wall, seeing if it sticks... Would anyone be interested in a "progressive play" of Ironsworn? You know, like those "progressive parties" people have at Christmas, where groups of friends/neighbors go from house to house, checking out the decorations and having a bit of snack/drink/dinner/drink/snack/caroling/drink/drink... I'm imagining it as each person in the "party" would handle one segment of a game, like a chapter of a book, then handing it off to the next (assigned) person to continue playing, and so on. I'm imagining having a fairly neutral person roll the character and pick the story setting (maybe a job for Shawn Tomkin !), then a set of people who sign up for the game will roll for "position", and each would have a certain amount of time to come up with their part of the story/game (say, two days?). It could be kept on a shared Google Doc, and it wouldn't have to be done in a set style, so each p...

Hello guys!

Hello guys! I wanted to share with you my World Workbook based in the "Antiguo y Colosal" setting for Fate, it's a spanish setting based in Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. If I don't write this somewhere or share it I will procrastinate and never begin my adventures. THE OLD WORLD The Ancients, our forefathers, build a great empire full of technology, wonders and splendor. Their pride consumed them and awoke the Titans. We, the Little People, are all that remains, and we must suffer and atone for the sins of our ancestors. IRON Inscrutable metal pillars are found throughout the land. They are iron gray, and smooth as river stone. They have a faint red aura and strange glyphs carved into them. The pillars do not tarnish, and even the sharpest blade cannot mark them. We call them "Haunt Stones". LEGACIES Before us were the Ancients. All that remains of their once glorious civilization is ruins and devastation. Altough they were our predecessors, little is know...

Hello, I had a question about the End the Fight move.

Hello, I had a question about the End the Fight move. How come a strong hit on this move is not rewarded by a bonus, like most of other progress moves are (Reach Your Destination = +1 spirit or +1 to next move, Fulfill Your Vow = experience, etc.) ? Is it because winning the fight is the reward in itself, or is there a mechanical reason behind this ?
Anyone tried using a pre-published setting (e.g. a setting guide) with Ironsworn?

I've run five Ironsworn games over the past few weeks as a GM.

I've run five Ironsworn games over the past few weeks as a GM. They have all been a ton of fun. Most of my playtesting through development was solo and co-op, so it's encouraging to see it working well in guided mode. In the past, I've been an anxiety-driven GM. The performance/on-the-spot aspects of it mean that I am usually way over-prepping. It becomes a chore rather than fun. But with Ironsworn? I just show up. At most I have an inciting incident in mind, but usually that just comes out of the introduction of the characters. From there, the mechanical flow and triggers means that story is going to happen, and I can bounce back-and-forth between a traditional GM role and letting the players take more narrative authority. If I'm stuck for how to resolve a move or what happens next, I just turn it back to the players. Anyway, if you suffer (like me) from GM anxiety and over-prepping, give it a try! It's a pretty freeing experience.

A recommendation guys, for those who like to play Ironsworn in settings with dungeons and weird monsters. Maybe those of you who are familiar with Dungeon World already know about Perilous Wilds, a supplement which expands and further details overland travel and world generation. I found it to be an invaluable companion for a more High Fantasy experience in Ironsworn. Even tho I use the exploration rules from Ironsworn, as they are simple and tailored to work as intended with the base game, the Region generator, encounter generator and of course, the rules for spontaneous dungeon crawling are simply amazing. You only need to substitute the stats used by the dungeon exploration moves and that's it, you got a Dungeon Crawling experience for Ironsworn, and a generator of wonderous waypoints, like giant trees, dead titans, and even more things only limited by your interpretation of the discovery results! Here's a link to the supplement, hope you have fun with this as I've been ...

Hello

Hello, Are there any translations of the rulebook in other languages on the way ?

Hey guys, for those who did not know, I am running a one-on-one Guided Ironsworn game along with Josh McGraw.

Hey guys, for those who did not know, I am running a one-on-one Guided Ironsworn game along with Josh McGraw. The basic premise is that our main protagonist, Toran, is caught in the tempest of events that are orchestrated by a man who has already taken everything from him. It is a rather bleak story, with the theme that I would describe as "People are bastards" (Toran not excluded), hence the name, A Grim Tale. We have just ran into a really, really tense moment, with a very morally and emotionally heavy decision that Toran has to make. I will say no more to avoid spoilers, but I just wanted to share that I am really curious about how will this end, and knowing that I have not much say in this, with everything left to Josh and dice gods, makes it all the more exciting. It is ran on Role Gate (heartily recommended!), so you can see all the moves engaged as you are reading. So if you wanted to see how Ironsworn works in practice, well, look no further! https://www.rolegate.com/...

It's been suggested that I give more visibility to a custom mechanic I talked about in a comment I wrote recently in response to a post. The idea behind this is a variation to the "Test your bond" move but works strictly on a personal level. The background is that my character has been sent away and banned from the community he was living in, because of misunderstandings. He doesn't hold a grudge and he keeps on believeing in the bonds he formed and he hopes to still be helpful to the people there, but being forced to travel alone and away from the settlement, it's inevitable that inner monologues and doubts will appear and the strength of the bond might shift up and down with time and ultimately it might even be "cleared". I'm using a sort of stress track for my bond, instead of being numbered, the states are labeled "Strong", "Weak" and "Fragile". The bond starts as "Strong" and during every leg of my journey...

Gunvar, Warden of Bramblehall crosses Branwhyn's path again. She held to here word when last they met, but Bramblehall's interest seems to always conflict with their own. Will joining their strength with hers invite treachery later on? 18 - Working with Brambles https://drive.google.com/open?id=1arP6T6j4vWNjEdNvPPXwGjm7ImV8gONS

So one thing I've noticed is that there's a lack of a dedicated sheet for tracking your Bonds!

So one thing I've noticed is that there's a lack of a dedicated sheet for tracking your Bonds! Is this a thing that can happen? For context I'm starting an Ironsworn society at the school I teach at in two days and in putting together a folio for the interested students I noticed that Bonds has a track, but not a space to write down what the Bonds actually ARE.

Session 6 was the best one yet!

Session 6 was the best one yet! I have to thank Shawn Tomkin for Ironsworn although it has consumed great portions of my free time :) This session truly threw up some unexpected complications and resolutions. A satisfying story emerged from Solo Play, which had elements I'd planned but many that were truly unexpected. https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/896346/Ironsworn_Story_006.pdf https://db4sgowjqfwig.cloudfront.net/campaigns/112704/assets/896346/Ironsworn_Story_006.pdf

This is a proposed Asset for my Dark Ages setting in which the realm of Faerie contains many dark and dangerous creatures who might bring harm to Mortals. The setting is influenced by Poul Anderson's novel, The Broken Sword. The denizens of Faerie are repelled by Iron and this spell can be cast using the dust from a blacksmith's workshop. I'll probably create a version of it using Holy Water too as Christianity has a similar effect. I've made Faerie Ward quite dangerous to cast, unless you have high Spirit. I'd probably make Holy Ward be much less dangerous to use - perhaps Endure Stress (1 spirit) To see some of my Actual Plays in this setting https://igm4u.com/f/ironsworn-actual-play-reports
