New guy here... So on a more short mission is it acceptable to have less than 10 progress boxes to check off?

  1. I would suggest that instead of modifying the amount of progress boxes, you lower the challenge’s rank. That way, you may accomplish it faster.

However, if you really want to make the mission a really fast one, yeah, you could reduce the amount of progress boxes needed, but that’d be more of a home brewed rule.

  2. Ah OK.. No if it's always ten then ten it'll stay.

I envision the beast that attacked the village to be still relatively close so I thought it made sense to shorten the boxes.

  3. Yeah just set the difficulty lower, and remember you don't need to actually fill all 10 checkboxes to use the moves for ending a journey or fight.

  4. If you make it a troublesome journey, you'll be there in no time (dice willing). You will mark three boxes each time you score a hit with Undertake a Journey.

You can also decide that the journey is close and not particularly perilous, in which case you don't need to make a move. Just jump to the next scene as you arrive.

Making it an actual journey gives you a potential milestone to mark on your vow track, though.

  5. walter burrell double check the moves to end a fight or end a journey. As you will see, you roll on the progress you made till now, so you "bet" with the roll on the success. If you have enough checked boxes, you can safely try, aiming for a weak Hit.
