Session 1 Mostly from Snorri's Perspective
Ravencliff is a steading on the Ragged Coast, near the Tempest Hills. It lies at the end of a narrow inlet, surrounded by perilous cliffs and is only accessible by the sea or a narrow path from the cliffs above.
Snorri was born in Ravencliff. His best friend growing up was Themon, the miller's son. Delkash is a veteran and father figure for Snorri, as his father was killed by the Tempest Trogs (fiends, background vow, avenge father, extreme) long ago. Delkash, Themon, and Maya (kinfolk) are refugees from Lowhill, which had been massacred by an iron construct about 20 years ago.
Some years ago, Snorri's mother grew ill, and he convinced the mystic hermit Old Kai to heal her. When he returns to Old Kai's hut, accompanied by Delkash, they 'chance' upon Theman as they are ascending Kai's Hill toward Kai's Cave. It's been eight years, and Snorri embraces his old friend warmly. They go to see the hermit together where they all swear upon the iron to visit an iron monolith on his behalf and touch an artifact in the form of an iron ring from the Old World upon the monolith. (Touch the ring to the monolith and return it to Old Kai, formidable -- Old Kai believes it will recharge the ring somehow. Snorri swears the vow because of the dept he owes for Old Kai healing his mother, the others do so because they've been having dreams of the monolith and the ring which Themon lost)
Upon swearing their oath, Themon and Delkash are haunted by the hermit's face appearing as the face of the iron construct which destroyed their home Lowhill. Old Kai quickly dismisses them without any other information. (We all missed our Vow rolls.)
They head back to Ravencliff feeling uneasy about their new vow. Snorri heads to the Long Hall and learns where to find the monolith from a fisherman. He also swears a new vow to recover the runaway daughter of a village elder. However, he also learns she's looking for the Shin, nomadic traders who travel with wolves. (dangerous, plus they have wolves)
After visiting his widowed stepfather, Themon eventually comes to the Long Hall wearing a hood and his wooden mask. He talks to the men who framed him, trying to get information about where he might find the ring they stole from him, but they become belligerent and demand he remove his mask. Snorri quickly buys them more ale and reminds them to be better hosts, then quickly ushers Theman back to his own home for the night.
They will begin their journey in the morning.
