Does the Creative Commoms License mean people are free to create games with different genres/settings based on Ironsworn? If so, maybe Shawn should consider some branding requirements for derivative games? E.g. “Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA)” for games based on The Apocalypse rules set.

So, for Ironsworn derived games, maybe “Forged from Ironsworn (FfI)”?

    I was thinking about this earlier since I have an idea floating around for a solo-friendly realm management style game based on the Ironsworn "engine".

    I don't know if rules can be copyrighted or anything but here is how they did it for blades in the dark: bladesinthedark.com - Licensing | Blades in the Dark RPG

    Same as apocalypse world, blades has some games in the work using or inspired by it core mecanics. So we have "Powered by the Apocalypse" for Apocalypse world inspired games (which Ironsworn seems to be a part of), and "Forged in the Dark", for those inspired by Blades in the Dark.

    "Forged in Ironsworn" seems a bit too close to "Forged in the Dark" to me. Maybe something using "sworn" or "vows" as those are central to the game? ("Sworn in iron"? Not entierly convinced by that one)

    Hey, Bill Andel. There are two Creative Commons licenses for Ironsworn. The first is a non-commercial license which covers the text of the rulebook, assets, and handouts. You can use this to create your own games using the rules/text as you like, as long as they are not sold.

    The second license is an open Creative Commons which is a "do as you like" license (including commercial use). This license will cover the text of the Ironsworn SRD, which will be a pared down version of the rulebook available post-launch.

    I don't think there will be a branding requirement, but there will be a logo available for anyone who wants to associate it with their work under the SRD license. No name for that yet!

    I'll also have my own "Ironsworn Frontiers" label, which will be for the official supplements.
