Here's a question: During character creation, if a player picks an asset with a trigger such as when you mark a bond with a kin-blade, when you are maimed, or once you Face Death and return to the world of the living... Is it assumed they've already done so, or, since such an event could take a while to happen, should they just be asked to pick again?
On page 41 (Chapter2, Assets, Acquiring Assets), the rulebook says:
ReplyDelete"Some assets can only be obtained after you have fulfilled narrative or mechanical requirements."
I understand this to mean that assets with a requirement should not be selected during character creation.
Awesome, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey, Richard Robertson. There is one bit of nuance for those assets that have a trigger of "Once you mark a bond...". When you create a character, you mark up to 3 background bonds, so it is possible to pick one of those assets if it's part of your character backstory. For example, you can start with kin-blade and mark that bond as one of your background bonds.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think it's more fun to make it part of the character's goals and story. Recovering your ancestral sword to gain the kin-blade asset would be a cool quest. But, it's not a requirement.
Something like Battle-Scarred or Revenant, however, require that you hit those mechanical and narrative triggers (becoming maimed and making the Face Death move, respectively).
Another question: Is a dagger a simple weapon, or a deadly weapon?
ReplyDeleteI'd call a dagger a deadly weapon,Richard Robertson. I might say that a knife carried as a tool is a simple weapon, but a dagger should be deadly.
