Got a question - is there any mechanical purpose to the type of Asset, i.e. Companion, Path, Combat Talent or Ritual? Or is it essentially just for flavor?
Not on their own, but some assets key-off asset type. For example, Ritualist makes it cheaper to purchase and upgrade rituals and Weaponmaster does the same for combat talents.
Failure on using a Ritual asset has specific mechanics: Mystic Backlash (p.189). It is so cool that I am looking forward to failing a Ritual :) Companions also have a special treatment with mechanics for distributing damage between them and characters.

ReplyDeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you choose assets randomly during character creation, you separate them by types and choose randomly by type.
ReplyDeleteedit: fixed typo
