Just added a chart in Chartopia for some Encounter ideas for a Dark Ages Ironsworn game. These suggestions might act as a spur to your imagination. There is quite a bit of randomisation inside each option so please give them a try when you want some external stimuli

Many of them aren’t combat-focussed

Olga is super excited that you used many of the new Chartopia Domain Language features. I'm going to have to figure out a way (besides tags and other search terms) for helping users find content for specific games and rulesets (e.g. Ironsworn).
ReplyDeleteChartopia is a great tool! While I was filling them in, the one thing I felt it could really benefit from, was a way to have sections of hidden content that you could then click on to reveal AFTER you made your in-character decision based on the earlier sentences.
ReplyDeleteMick Hand Are you saying you want a way to save the result one of conditions, and then use that as a basis for determining future results? Apologies, you may have to give an example.
ReplyDeleteGlenn McCord maybe this is possible already by linking one chart to another - what I meant was something like... display the result of the roll "You find a young boy wandering the road. He claims to be lost and wants you to take him home to a woodcutter's hut off the track. It could be a trap - do you take him home? then have a clickable link to reveal whether this was a good idea or not. CLICK - he turns out to be a trap set by brigands / troll / witch or his parents are grateful + 1 supply
ReplyDeleteMick Hand Ah, so you want something like a "decision point" in the roll-flow? If I'm interpreting this right, you'd start with rolling on an encounters table which results in something like "you find a boy..." but, then you offer the players a couple of choices. This is a pause point. Then, the players make a choice, "take him home" or "leave him" and that requires rolling on different tables as to determine the boy's fate.
ReplyDeleteWhat you could do is make use of urls that take you to the next table to roll. A url in markdown format would be something like [take him home](https://chartopia.d12dev.com/chart/xxx)
That could at least take you to the next chart in a step-wise manner rather than just busting out a complete outcome in one 'roll'. Alternatively you could make use of extra columns to put a list of possible choices there for the given encounter. You could use markdown to make a list if you want nicer looking formatting.
